ADATIVE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR DESIGNING AND ENGINEERING An oem radio mic FOR NEXION'S UNIO system.

background

The UNIO Mic is part of a product system that provides mobile communications in vehicles. The UNIO system is capable of interfacing with multiple radio networks to easily communicate and switch between different channels.  

Challenges

The UNIO Mic is the primary voice input device for the UNIO system.  It needed to be easily held in the hand providing a comfortable and firm grip as well as allowing for gloved finger operation.

design concepts

Early side-by-side design concepts provided industrial design form and user interface (UI) evaluation.


block model prototypes

CNC block model prototypes of overall forms provided valuable in-the-hand tactile evaluation of ergonomics and user interface (UI) button layouts.


design development

Further design development included user interface (UI) configurations and CAD hardware assembly to align the design intent with constraints.


simplified functions

Further design development considered reducing the microphone functionality by either removing the emergency button or speaker (the system uses the vehicle speakers as the primary audio source).


functional prototypes

Functional prototypes were commissioned and evaluated against device requirements and part specifications.

Pre-production part specifications were generated to document the functional prototype build.
